“En’ So, Lord Jesus Quickly Come”
We wait a lot. We wait for things and we wait for people. We wait in lines, we wait on phones and we wait for mail and the T.V. Guide. We wait for each other. We wait for wedding dates, for the fish to bite and for new puppies and good news from the doctor.
We wait a lot. We wait for others to do their work so that we can do our own. We wait for someone to tell us we are loved. We wait for healing, for a better day, for the pot to boil, for a better deal, for lower fares, for our expectations to be met.
We wait a lot. And waiting—for all that we do it—is never easy.
Advent is a waiting season. Advent – Hope- Anticipation – Expectation – Wonder - Promise. These are all great words which express the true meaning of Advent. Advent as a waiting time is an incredible time to consider how we will be ready for the rebirth of God’s promise in our lives in Jesus the Christ and Messiah.
We live in a society; however, that puts commercialization of Christmas right between Back-to-School and Halloween candy sales. Can we keep focused on what is truly, faithfully, spiritually the center of Advent—Jesus?
It can be so easy to lose sight of the Savior in all of the wrappings, trimmings and details.
The message of Christmas is, however, that we really do not have to wait. Christ was born, and Christ will return, but in the meantime Christ is here—right here in the heart of every believer.
Jesus Christ came into your life at your baptism and he remains an active involved presence in your life at all times.
En’ so Lord Jesus quickly comes—yes we can say that, knowing that we look forward to a time of glory, but God’s promise is that we are already members of God’s kingdom. The wait is over. It was over in your baptism.
While we wait a lot, we do not have to wait for God’s kingdom in our lives, it is here now for us today. It is truly a reason to celebrate the season!
God’s peace,
Pastor Mark
