“We love because God first loved us.”

1st John 4:19

The month of February is best known for the holiday, Valentine’s Day.  February could be nicknamed, “The Love Month.”  We spend time and money on sending greetings to those we love and often give gifts to those who are special to us.

Valentine’s Day is a time we remember what it is to be so in-love that it is all consuming.  Being in-love is to have the feeling of walking two feet off the ground, and seeing the world through rose colored glasses.  There is no other emotion like it.

To be "in love" is to bask in the glow of loving and having that love returned.

How is it that we can have the capacity for such depth of emotion?  From where, or from whom does that originate?

As Christians we know the answer to that question.  John tells us, “We were created in the image of God the Creator and that image is the clearest when we love.

We are told that God so loved us that God gave God’s only Son that we might spend eternity in God’s presence.

If you want to try to envision how much God loves you, think on how it feels to be totally, helplessly, even silly, in-love, willing to do anything for that person who has returned your love and filled your life with such joy.

It is often hard to believe that God loves us so much, but love us God does – with all of our shortcomings.

This Valentine’s Day as you sign cards and maybe pick out a gift for that someone special, remember how special you are to God.  Bask in that love, let it warm you to the very depth of your heart and then let it spill out in joy to all those around you.

Love, love, love

that’s what it’s all about.

Cause God loves us we love each other,

Mother, father, sister, brother.

Everybody sing and shout,

Cause that’s what it’s all about.

It’s about love, love, love,

It’s about love, love, love.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
