What A Wacky Year!

“Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock.” Isaiah 26:4

This has been and continues to be a year of extremes in our weather. It started with an early and very severe winter. It continued with one of the coolest springs that I can remember, that made gardening frustrating and now we are in need of rain, our soil parched and dry.

Our gardens need water, as do the flowers. Our yards need water, and there is slight chance of moisture for many days. And yet their have been severe storms elsewhere in the country and violent tornadoes.

‘What is going on here Lord?’ we ask. It is an understandable question. We worry, we wonder about our futures and perhaps even how we are going to make it, financially through another year.

Isaiah tells us we are to trust in the Lord. Does this mean that by trusting in God that everything will suddenly get better? No. God does not promise instant miracles or that all the bad things in life will go away.

Rather, God’s promise to us in our baptism is to walk through life with us and to especially be there with us in the tough times with God’s strength and courage.

Please note that there is more to Isaiah’s message:“Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock.”That is God’s promise. God is our rock, our strength, and our very present help in trouble.

In prayer, I encourage you to commit your concerns, fears, and worries to God our Savior and Good Shepherd and trust in the Shepherd’s all encompassing and faithful love for you. God will see us through this and in the midst of all that we face, will give us God’s promised peace that passes all understanding.

“Trust in the Lord, forever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock.”

May the peace of Christ live in your hearts.

Peace,

Pastor Mark
