The Joy of Being Ageless

As I write this article my mind is pondering my dad’s 93rd birthday.  It is a remarkable feat to reach the age of 93, to still be in good health, alert and active, as my dad continues to be.  It is right that we should get together as a family and rejoice in the many years God has given us to be with him.

However, there is another remarkable feat in our lives as Christians.  That is, that we are really ageless.  Yes, I said ageless.  When God came into our lives in our baptism and made us God’s children, we were granted eternal life!

When one enters the Kingdom of God, one becomes ageless. The ravishes of time still take their toll; we slow down, our hair turns gray and the wrinkles appear, but that is only a temporary condition.

As members of the Kingdom of God we never age.  We remain God’s children, loved, protected, guided, and saved, saved from that which is the final aging process – death.

When you get up in the morning and look in the mirror look beyond the wrinkles and the age lines.  Look into your heart and see the child that will always be there – the child of God, the child who is able to see the awe and wonder of this world and the next – the awe, wonder and depth of God’s love.

You see, it is the ageless child in us that is able to say in complete trust, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”

Happy Un-birthday!

Peace,

Pastor Mark
